Community health centers provide primary care to nearly 34 million patients each year, including one in three rural Americans. The National Health Service Corps strengthens the primary care workforce by providing scholarships and loan repayment to physicians and other clinicians who serve in high-need communities. Congress should pass a multi-year funding agreement to prevent funding for the Community Health Center Fund and the National Health Service Corps from expiring at the end of 2026.
The Patients First Act (H.R. 9693) would help create a more stable and sustainable Medicare physician payment system. The bipartisan legislation would establish a permanent annual payment update tied to inflation, invest in comprehensive primary care through prospective monthly payments, replace MIPS with more clinically relevant quality measures and reform outdated budget-neutrality requirements. Congress should pass H.R. 9693 to strengthen primary care and protect patients’ access to physicians.
The H-1Bs for Physicians & Healthcare Workforce Act (H.R. 7961) would repeal the new $100,000 H-1B visa fee for physicians and other medical professionals. The fee creates a significant financial barrier for rural hospitals, community health centers and other organizations already struggling to recruit physicians. Congress should pass H.R. 7961 to protect the international medical graduate workforce and preserve access to care in rural and underserved communities.
